OKR GRAZING ASSOCIATION

The Old Kathleen Ranch Grazing Association is a corporation filed with the Secretary of State. It is the management entity for the HOA and its owner members for grazing, related Ag and ranching matters.  It serves as an agent and facilitator for ranch leasing, planning, and land maintenance for grazing.  The members look to the OKR GA to manage their grazing lease and handle the grazing function with its rancher.  OKR GA is considered a key source for information and help regarding noxious weeds, fencing, range improvements and programs dealing with land improvements.

OKR properties are a part of the agricultural process. Through the Association, the owner’s grazing lease supports a known producer rancher in an effort to help make the rancher’s venture economic, ultimately serving the public good.   Owners work in conjunction with the Grazing Association by participating in related pursuits; noxious weed control, pasture improvement, erosion control, forestry, aquaculture and animal husbandry.  Healthy pastures provide for rich grass for producing market ready cattle, making OKR a true forage resource in Ag.

Agricultural Legacy
The warm sun on your shoulders, a breeze blowing through the pines, you take in the sight and sounds of cattle grazing on a high mountain pasture.  The sounds of munching grass, swishing tails, buzzing insects, and calves calling to their mothers fill the air.  When it comes to Old Kathleen Ranch properties, the true experience of ranching along with providing economic support to local ranchers is the hallmark of Old Kathleen’s modern day experience.  A long time heritage of ranching and agriculture continues.

Annually, the Old Kathleen Ranch properties are open range and home to cow and calf pairs, carrying on a tradition of ranching that began with the early pioneers of the area.  The Association, which consists solely of property owners within Old Kathleen Ranch, leases grazing rights to a local rancher whose cattle roam free on ranch properties for most of the year.

Cowboys and cowgirls are alive and well here.  You will see them on horseback checking cattle and herding small groups of cows and their calves to different areas on the ranch to assure that areas are not overgrazed.  Agents of the Association ride the range as well checking on fences and assisting the property owners and rancher to encourage the continuation of future open range grazing.

Today, property owners in Old Kathleen Ranch carry on the agricultural heritage of the ranch through their participation and support towards associated agricultural pursuits;  noxious weed control, pasture improvement, erosion control, forestry, aquaculture, and animal husbandry.  Healthy pastures provide rich summer grass for producing market ready cattle.  They provide necessary winter grazing for wildlife as well.  Owners continuously share ideas, encourage the care of the land, and proudly carry on the tradition.
